German rock band who went though many styles during their history : Wallenstein ‎– Charline

Catalogul Viniloteca Nr 1

The band Wallenstein, founded in Viersen in Lower Rhineland, later based in Mönchengladbach, was a German rock band from 1971 to 1982, which was later associated with the so-called Krautrock of the 1970s.

Wallenstein was founded in the summer of 1971 under the martial name of Blitzkrieg by the ambitious student of art (at the Art Academy Düsseldorf), Jürgen Dollase, from Viersen. He had already been trained in classical music, playing the piano and thedouble bass, and he had played in skiffle as well as in jazz formations. In addition, the businessman and band manager, Peter Gielen (Octopus Productions) from Mönchengladbach-Hehnerholt, and Corrado Faccioni, Italian buddy and former road manager of Dollase, were involved in the foundation. Wallenstein started as a kind of „test-tube child”, because Dollase and Roadie Faccioni gathered the initial lineup from other bands. The first solo-guitarist of the group was Wolfgang „Ginger” Steinicke from Erkelenz, today a renowned astronomer; but the former member of Smiddys Blues Band was soon replaced by the American William (Bill) Joseph Barone from Philadelphia because Steinicke’s studies in physics or astrophysics and mathematics had his highest priority. Jürgen Dollase had already been able to win over Harald Grosskopf from Hildesheim, and Dutchman Gerrit (Jerry) Berkers (now deceased) from Brunssum was taken on board shortly after Bill Barone.

Because the name Blitzkrieg was already in use by an English band (but was often misspelled Blitzkreig by the British music press), and because the name was far from being politically correct for the German record labels of that time, the group named itself after the Thirty Years’ War commander Albrecht von Wallenstein in early 1972. Also in early 1972, the debut album of the classical or art rockers was released. It had been recorded in the studio of Dieter Dierks in Stommeln near Cologne from September to December 1971 and it was titled after the first name of the band. In the same year, the German record label Pilz released Mother Universe, succeeding the debut album (also from the Pilz record label) as fast as lightning (Blitz). (Rem.: The album cover photo by Harald Grosskopf depicts Dollase’s grandmother.)

In 1978, after some changes in the musical style, Dollase replaced all members of the band. Because of their performance in the ZDF broadcast Disco with Ilja Richter in 1979, the band reached place 17 in the German pop charts with their single Charline. But the single Don’t Let It Be (from the album Blue Eyed Boys) was also rather successful later and sold very well. From March to June 1981, Wallenstein went on their last tour; the group finally disbanded in 1982.

Catalogul Viniloteca Nr 1

Elvis Costello (born Declan Patrick MacManus, 25 August 1954) is an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He began his career as part of London’s pub rock scene in the early 1970s and later became associated with the first wave of the British punk and new wave movement of the mid-to-late 1970s.[3][4] His critically acclaimed debut album, My Aim Is True, was recorded in 1977. Shortly after recording it he formed the Attractions as his backing band. His second album, This Year’s Model, was released in 1978, and was ranked number 11 by Rolling Stone on its list of the best albums from 1967–1987. His third album, Armed Forces, was released in 1979, and features his most successful single „Oliver’s Army„. His first three albums all appeared on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.[5]

Costello and the Attractions toured and recorded together for the better part of a decade, though differences between them caused a split by 1986. Much of Costello’s work since has been as a solo artist, though reunions with members of the Attractions have been credited to the group over the years. Steeped in wordplay, the vocabulary of Costello’s lyrics is broader than that of most popular songs. His music has drawn on many diverse genres; one critic described him as a „pop encyclopaedia”, able to „reinvent the past in his own image”.[6]

Costello has won multiple awards in his career, including a Grammy Award, and has twice been nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male.[7] In 2003, Costello and the Attractions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[8] In 2004, Rolling Stoneranked Costello number 80 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[9]

Blood & Chocolate is the eleventh studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello, released in the United Kingdom as Demon Records XFIEND 80, and in the United States as Columbia 40518. After his previous album King of America with producer T-Bone Burnett and different musicians, this album reunited him with producer Nick Lowe and his usual backing group the Attractions. It peaked at No. 16 on the UK Albums Chart, and No. 84 on the Billboard 200.[2]

One of the best bands of the current New Wave of British Heavy Metal : Judas Priest ‎– Killing Machine

R-4933499-1379856816-1850.jpeg

Catalogul Viniloteca Nr 1

Killing Machine is the fifth studio album by Judas Priest, released in November 1978. The album was Judas Priest’s first stab at a „different” sound, and was created at about the same time that the band members adopted their now-famous „leather-and-studs” style. Killing Machine was retitled Hell Bent for Leather for US release, as the US branch of Columbia/CBS did not like the „murderous implications” of the album title. Additionally, the track „The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)”, an early Fleetwood Mac cover, was added to the running order; it was not on the UK release.
The album was remastered in 2001, with two bonus tracks added. The bonus track „Fight for Your Life” was the „original” version of Judas Priest’s „Rock Hard Ride Free” from their Defenders of the Faith album.

„An incredible drummer, anyone who wants to be good on the drums should check him out – the man is a master.”, an great singer and song songwriter : Phil Colins and 4 from his solo albums

Catalogul Viniloteca Nr 1

Philip David Charles „Phil” Collins, LVO (born 30 January 1951),[6] is an English singer, songwriter, musician, music producer and actor. He gained fame as both the drummer and lead singer for the rock band Genesis, and he also gained worldwide fame as a solo artist.

Collins is one of the most successful songwriters and performers of all time, singing the lead vocals on dozens of hit albums and singles in the UK and the US between 1976 and 2010, either as a solo artist or with Genesis. His solo singles, sometimes dealing with lost love and often featuring his distinctive gated reverb drum sound, ranged from the atmospheric „In the Air Tonight„, dance-rock of „Sussudio„, piano-driven power balladAgainst All Odds„, to the political and religious connotations of „Another Day in Paradise„. Collins has been described by AllMusic as „one of the most successful pop and adult contemporary singers of the ’80s and beyond”.[1]

Collins joined Genesis in 1970 as the group’s drummer and became their lead vocalist in 1975 following the departure of the original lead singer Peter Gabriel. His solo career, which was launched in 1981 and was heavily influenced by his personal life and soul music, brought both himself and Genesis greater commercial success. Collins’s total worldwide sales as a solo artist are 150 million.[7] Collins has won numerous music awards throughout his career, including seven Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards—winning Best British Male three times, three American Music Awards, an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards and a Disney Legend Award in 2002 for his solo work.[8][9][10] He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999, was inducted into theSongwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.[11][12] Collins was ranked number 10 in „The Greatest Drummers of All Time” list by Gigwise and number nine in a list of „The 20 greatest drummers of the last 25 years” by MusicRadar in 2010.[13][14] He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2012.[15]

American garage rock band. Hard-edged sound has been a major influence on punk, garage, and hard rock : The Sonics ‎– Here Are The Sonics

Photo0491

Catalogul Viniloteca Nr 1

The Sonics are an American garage rock band from Tacoma, Washington, originating in the early 1960s.[1] Among the Sonics’ contemporaries were the Kingsmen, the Wailers, the Dynamics, the Regents, and Paul Revere & the Raiders. Their aggressive, hard-edged sound has been a major influence on punk, garage, and hard rock music worldwide, and they have been named as inspirations to Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, the Fall, and other major artists.

They played a mixture of garage rock standards („Louie, Louie„, „Have Love, Will Travel„), early rock and roll („Jenny, Jenny”, „Skinny Minnie„) and original compositions such as „Strychnine”, „Psycho”, and „The Witch”, all based upon simple chord sequences, played hard and fast.

The lyrics of The Sonics’ original material dealt with early 1960s teenage culture: cars, guitars, surfing, and girls (in songs like „The Hustler”, „Boss Hoss” and „Maintaining My Cool”) alongside darker subject matter such as drinking strychnine for kicks, witches, psychopaths, and Satan (in the songs „Strychnine”, „The Witch”, „Psycho”, and „He’s Waitin'”, respectively).

Bring the noise and Keep it in the family with : Anthrax ‎– Attack Of The Killer B’s

Photo0490

Catalogul Viniloteca Nr 1

Anthrax is an American thrash metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The group was considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene during the 1980s. Of the „Big Four” thrash metal bands (the others being Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer), Anthrax were the only band from the East Coast. As of 2014, the band has released ten studio albums, a number of singles and an EP with American hip hop group Public Enemy. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Anthrax sold 2.5 million records in the United States from 1991 to 2004, with worldwide sales of 10 million.

Noted for its live performances, Anthrax signed with the independent label Megaforce Records (which released the band’s debut studio album in 1984). Lilker soon left the band to form Nuclear Assault, and was replaced by roadie Frank Bello. Vocalist Neil Turbinwas replaced after two years by Matt Fallon who was then subsequently replaced in 1985 by Joey Belladonna. With a new lineup, the band recorded Spreading the Disease (distributed by Island Records) in 1985. Anthrax’s third album, Among the Living, was released in 1987 to critical praise. The band experienced another lineup change in 1992, when John Bush replaced Belladonna as lead vocalist. Sound of White Noise was released the following year, peaking at number seven on the Billboard 200. Studio recordings during the 1990s saw the band, influenced by other genres, experimenting with its sound.

Anthrax’s lineup has changed several times over their career. The band has had a number of vocalists including Neil Turbin, Joey Belladonna, Dan Nelson and John Bush. Founding members Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, who joined Anthrax in 1983, are the only band members to appear on every album. Bassist Frank Bello has played on every album except the band’s first. In 2010, Joey Belladonna returned to Anthrax for Worship Music, his first studio album with the band since 1990’s Persistence of Time.

His Majesty : David Bowie ‎– Low

R-216166-1275625649.jpeg

David Bowie (/ˈb.i/;[1] born David Robert Jones, 8 January 1947) is an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, arranger, painter, and actor. Bowie has been an influential figure in popular music for over four decades, and is renowned as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He is known for his distinctive baritone voice as well as the eclecticism and intellectual ambition of his work. His androgynous appearance was an iconic element of his image, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s.[2][3]
Low is the eleventh studio album by British musician David Bowie, co-produced by Bowie and Tony Visconti.[1] Widely regarded as one of Bowie’s most influential releases, Low was the first of the „Berlin Trilogy„, a series of collaborations with Brian Eno (though the album was mainly recorded in France and only mixed in West Berlin). The experimental, avant-garde style would be further explored on „Heroes” and Lodger. The album’s working title was New Music Night and Day.[2]

Pièce de résistance :Spooky Tooth ‎– Spooky Two

R-3885734-1396209402-6903.jpeg

VINILOTECA sept. Final

Spooky Two is the second album by the English rock band Spooky Tooth. It was released through Island Records in 1969 (licensed to A&M in the United States).[1]

In their retrospective review, Allmusic commented that „Spooky Two is this British blues-rock band’s pièce de résistance. All eight of the tracks compound free-styled rock and loose-fitting guitar playing, resulting in some fantastic raw music. …their smooth, relaxed tempos and riffs mirrored bands like Savoy Brown and, at times, even the Yardbirds. …Although Spooky Tooth lasted about seven years, their other albums never really contained the same passion or talented collaborating by each individual musician as Spooky Two.”

Record was a critical and commercial success, the band fifth UK No. 1 : Iron Maiden ‎– The Book Of Souls

R-7399203-1441368785-1510.jpeg

Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, east London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The band’s discography has grown to thirty-seven albums, including sixteen studio albums, eleven live albums, four EPs, and seven compilations.

Pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Iron Maiden achieved initial success during the early 1980s. After several line-up changes, the band went on to release a series of UK and US platinum and gold albums, including 1982’s The Number of the Beast, 1983’s Piece of Mind, 1984’s Powerslave, 1985’s live release Live After Death, 1986’s Somewhere in Time and 1988’s Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Since the return of lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999, the band have undergone a resurgence in popularity,[1] with their 2010 studio offering, The Final Frontier, peaking at No. 1 in 28 different countries and receiving widespread critical acclaim. Their sixteenth studio album, The Book of Souls, was released on 4 September 2015.

The Book of Souls is the sixteenth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 4 September 2015. It is the band’s first studio double album, and therefore also their longest to date, with a total length of 92 minutes. The album’s launch and its supporting tour were delayed to allow vocalist Bruce Dickinson time to recover from treatment which he received in early 2015 to remove a cancerous tumour.

The album was produced by long-time Iron Maiden collaborator Kevin Shirley and recorded at Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris from September to December 2014, which they had previously used for 2000’s Brave New World. The band wrote and immediately recorded many tracks in the studio, resulting in a spontaneous live feel. The first song to be released from the album, „Speed of Light„, was issued as a music video on 14 August, while simultaneously made available as a digital download and CD single exclusive to Best Buy. In addition to being their longest studio record, it also contains the band’s longest song, „Empire of the Clouds”, at 18 minutes in length. While not a concept album, references to the soul and mortality are prominent, realised in theMaya-themed cover artwork, created by Mark Wilkinson.

The record was a critical and commercial success, receiving positive reviews and topping the album charts in 24 countries. It earned the band their fifth UK No. 1
