U2 ‎– Rattle And Hum….

R-779296-1172316487.jpeg

Rattle and Hum is the sixth studio album by rock band U2, and a companion rockumentary film directed by Phil Joanou, both released in 1988. The film and the album feature live recordings, covers, and new songs. To a greater extent than on their previous album, The Joshua Tree, the band explores American roots music and incorporates elements of blues rock, folk rock, and gospel music in their sound. The motion picture was filmed primarily in the United States in late 1987 during The Joshua Tree Tour and it features their experiences with American music. Although Rattle and Hum was intended to represent the band paying tribute to rock legends, some critics accused U2 of trying to place themselves amongst the ranks of these artists. While critical reception was mixed, the album was a commercial success, reaching the number one spot in several countries and selling 14 million copies.[2]

O trupa si un album de progessive rock cu o influenta deodebita in musica de gen Camel ‎– Music Inspired By The Snow Goose

R-1665361-1347917874-1188.jpeg

The Snow Goose is the third album by the band Camel, released in 1975. The critical success[2] of „The White Rider” suite (based on J. R. R. Tolkien‘s The Lord of the Rings and appearing on the band’s previous album, Mirage), inspired the group to write more novel-inspired conceptual suites.[2]The band considered several novels on which to base their next album. For a time they settled on Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, and some songs were written before the idea was abandoned in favour of Paul Gallico‘s novella The Snow Goose. The album’s name, originally The Snow Goose was altered to Music Inspired by The Snow Goose to accommodate legal protests by Paul Gallico.[3] Gallico’s protests were not, as is often[4][3][5][6] stated, motivated by a disapproval of smoking – Gallico was in fact a keen smoker[7] – but simply on the grounds of copyright infringement.[8] The album was originally due to feature lyrics based around Paul Gallico‘s text, but due to his objections, an instrumental was made instead. The music was mostly written during an intensive fortnight in a cottage in Devon, England.[3]

Englezi naturalizati in Germania o excelenta trupa de progressive kraut rock : Nektar ‎– Down To Earth

The band formed in Hamburg, Germany in 1969. Members included Englishmen Roye Albrighton on guitars and vocals, Allan „Taff” Freeman on keyboards, Derek „Mo” Moore on bass, Ron Howden on drums, and Mick Brockett on lights and special effects. Songwriting was always considered a group effort.

The band’s early albums Journey to the Centre of the Eye, A Tab in the Ocean, and …Sounds Like This were obscure psychedelic rock albums that won the band a growing cult following, based largely on word of mouth. The last of those albums was the first Nektar album to be released in the U.S., on the small Passport Records label. Iron Maiden recorded a cover version of the A Tab in the Ocean song „King of Twilight”, released on a 1995 reissue of their 1984 album Powerslave as a bonus track

Din inima metalului un clasic al unei trupe clasice Accept ‎– Metal Heart

R-3069424-1389006722-1730.jpeg

Metal Heart is the sixth studio album by German heavy metal band Accept, released in 1985. Although the group had recorded before at Dierks-Studios, this was the first album produced by Dieter Dierks himself. This album was a cautious attempt to crack the lucrative American market with more accessible songcraft and emphasis on hooks and melodies. Although critically panned at the time, today Metal Heart is often considered by fans as one of the band’s best records.[3] It contains several of their classic songs such as „Metal Heart” and „Living for Tonite”. The band also makes a detour into jazz territory with the unusual song „Teach Us to Survive”.

Yardbirds, The ‎– Remember… The Yardbirds

R-1629726-1267699097.jpeg

Catalog Personal 23

The Yardbirds are an English rock band that had a string of hits in the mid-1960s, including „For Your Love„, „Over Under Sideways Down” and „Heart Full of Soul„. The group is notable for having started the careers of three of rock’s most famous guitarists: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, all of whom are in the top five of Rolling Stone’s 100 Top Guitarists list (Clapton at No. 2, Page at No. 3 and Beck at No. 5).[1] A blues-based band that broadened its range into pop and rock, the Yardbirds had a hand in many electric guitar innovations of the mid-1960s, such as feedback, „fuzztone” distortion and improved amplification. Pat Pemberton, writing for Spinner, holds that the Yardbirds were „the most impressive guitar band in rock music”.[2] After the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, their lead guitarist Jimmy Page founded what became Led Zeppelin.

The bulk of the band’s most successful self-written songs came from bassist/producer Paul Samwell-Smith who, with singer/harmonica player Keith Relf, drummer Jim McCarty and rhythm guitarist/bassist Chris Dreja, constituted the core of the group. The band reformed in the 1990s, featuring McCarty, Dreja and new members. The Yardbirds were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.[3] They were included in Rolling Stone‘s list of the „100 Greatest Artists of All Time”, and VH1‘s „100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock”.[4][5]

Daca esti fan de muzica psychedelica din ani ’60 asta e un disc care sta foarte bine in „zona” :Genesis ‎– Rock Roots

R-755331-1410979329-5163.jpeg

Catalog Personal 23

The group started as Genesis, biblical centuries ago. But fate intervened, other groups became Genesis and who were we to fight. So we changed our name in America to Revelation. Moments later up came another Revelation. Now we are the group without a name, but we have a record and we want to give it to you, name or not. It was a hard sound to get together, conceived over a period of months, with rainbows of music colour filtering through the glass partition on to the sliding faders and echo knobs, searching for the pot of gold.  From Genesis to Revelation. Sporadic moments in between; thoughts of a very young group looking shortly back and far forward, over the grey mountains of time shrouded in the mist of harmony. We hope you will find no one to compare it with, not because we don’t want to be compared, but because there are better things to do. We hope you won’t find it pretentious or humourless because it was intended to be neither. It was intended to be just very pleasant. Melodic, unusual, containing what is natural and genuine. Sometimes, before the hard age of flitting teens, shapes are sharper, patterns clearer, ideas more simple and statements more crystal. Sometimes, indeed, wrongly so. Sometimes rightly. Always, in truth, interesting and valid as an experience for the senses, for the mind. Those years between fifteen and twenty. No longer boy or girl, not yet man or woman. Confused by the bright light of age, remembering the hazy mellowness of youth. Years when one tries to go back, forwards, upwards, downwards- never to remain static, at peace in growing up. Listen and cast your mind into the sound spectrum. Hear what you hear – smile and enjoy, from the beginning to the end, from Genesis to Revelation.

Una dintre putinele trupe de rock (in particular punk ) , occidental , care au concertat in anii comunismului in Romania : Boomtown Rats, The ‎– The Fine Art Of Surfacing

R-572333-1252306647.jpeg

Catalog Personal 23

The Fine Art of Surfacing was The Boomtown Rats‘ third album and contained the hit-single releases, „I Don’t Like Mondays„, „Diamond Smiles” and „Someone’s Looking at You„.[1] The album peaked at No. 7 in the UK Albums Chart in 1979.[6]

„I Don’t Like Mondays” b/w „It’s All the Rage” was released in June 1979, and reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in late July in the UK in the same year.[6] The song refers to Brenda Ann Spencer’s killing spree on Monday, 29 January 1979 in San Diego, California.

Bob Geldof also went around America leading up to The Fine Art of Surfacing, drumming up publicity for the band in the States. During this time the Rats learned much about both American life and breaking into the American music market. This is a recurring theme on the album, sometimes taking a serious approach in looking at American society, in songs like „I Don’t Like Mondays” and „Diamond Smiles,” while other times looking at it in a downright silly and mocking manner in songs like „Nothing Happened Today” and „Having My Picture Taken,” the album takes aim at 1979 life in classic punk style.[citation needed]

Musically, this album was, for the most part, quite a departure from the Rats’ punk influences that came across so clearly in their debut album and A Tonic For The Troops. The Rats display many styles in this album from a wide range of influences.[1]

In 2005, this album was re-released (it had previously been released but fell out of print quickly), digitally remastered by Bob Geldof and Pete Briquette with bonus tracks, mostly B-sides from various eras, that delve more deeply into the Rats’ musical influences.
